Part of Grafton Group Plc, Chadwicks Group is the market leader in the builder’s merchanting industry in the Republic of Ireland. The core business is through the traditional Builders Merchants division. Main brands include Chadwicks, Cork Builders Providers, Davies & Telfords. In addition, and through organic growth and acquisitions the Group have established a range of brands which are close to the core but offer a uniquely different range of products. These include Heitons Steel, Panelling Centre, Morgans Timber, Proline & Sitetech.
Principle Objective
Reporting to the CEO of the Chadwicks Group, the Managing director of the specialist products division is responsible the P&L of that specialist group of companies in line with the profit and revenue targets, overseeing the day to day running of those businesses, developing, and implementing the strategy for growth.
Knowledge & Experience
An experienced business leader in a comparable role, preferably with industry knowledge.
Holding a business degree or construction industry qualification, an MBA or similar post graduate qualification would be desirable.
Experience of driving a sustainability strategy would be a positive addition.
5 + years in a similar senior position
Demonstratable ability to grow a business
Excellent communication skills with the ability to set a strategic vision
The ability to solve problems and make decisions, as well as think laterally and offer creative solutions
Key Responsibilities
The Managing Director SPD is a key member of the senior Leadership Team of The Chadwicks Group and will contribute on all elements of strategy.
To lead the individual businesses within the division to ensure the smooth, efficient, and effective running of those business units. This role will provide support, training, coaching and development to key leaders to ensure the annual revenue and margin budgets across the BUs are achieved.
Enable change to ensure the BUs remains relevant to the market and have a sustainable business model into the future, ensuring digital strategy, business progress and route to market are sufficiently developed elements to sustain future growth and competitiveness.
Conduct regular assessments of our customer and market needs, analyse competition’s capability relating to building solutions, providing alternative tactics, solutions, and support.
Contribute towards the preparation of the annual long-range planning process (5-year plan) to ensure the operational challenges and the BUs issues are represented
Responsible for all the safety aspects within the area of own responsibility.
Manage and develop your team ensuring clear targets and objectives are defined and met on a regular basis. Create a highly engaged and motivated business colleagues, who understand their objectives and their role in achieving them.
Lead the process for planning, budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning for the division.
Work with the Leadership Team members, especially those other leaders of businesses to develop and implement effective processes and procedures to drive efficiencies across the business.
Developing sustainable relationships with suppliers and key customers.
Promote sustainability across the key strategic areas identified in the business
Drive a positive culture across the business, listening to colleagues and leading the way in diversity and inclusion
Ensure that all Company policies and procedures are being followed and improve processes and policies where needed ensuring compliance on ethics and standards
Identify and lead technology driven projects that will ensure operational and fleet efficiencies as well as customer service and sustainability improvements.
Continuous Improvement - drive continuous improvement throughout the business and creating an environment where operational metrics can be maximised.
Role Model-maintain a professional image for the Company and wider Group in all dealings with both internal and external stakeholders, act as a role model for leadership both internally and externally. Promote and ensure the business operates in line with the values.
Networking -build and maintain strong relations across the Grafton Group and the associated businesses and management teams. Build strong networks externally to support growth and innovation. Make a full contribution to the Grafton Group community through participation in in projects and other Group initiatives.
Any other ad hoc duties as reasonably requested by the CEO
