The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Hire Operative (Trainee Fitter) to join our team in Sallynoggin.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a hands-on attitude who is looking to start or develop a career in the plant hire and equipment maintenance industry. training will be provided, with the chance to learn from experienced team members and progress into a skilled Hire Fitter/Technician role over time.

Role Overview

Working closely with the Hire Department Manager and team, you will support the day-to-day running of a busy hire department while learning how to inspect, maintain, and service a wide range of plant and tool equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the day-to-day operations of the hire department
• Support the inspection, cleaning, and preparation of equipment for hire
• Learn to carry out maintenance and basic repairs on tools and plant equipment
• Help ensure all equipment is safe, tested, and ready for customer use
• Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment
• Follow all health & safety procedures and company policies
• Assist with customer queries and provide basic equipment demonstrations
• Support stock control and safeguard company assets

What You Will Learn 

• Maintenance of small tools (e.g. grinders, drills, saws)
• Basic servicing of plant equipment (e.g. mini diggers, dumpers, compactors)
• Introduction to engine types (petrol & diesel)
• Equipment safety checks and testing procedures (including PAT testing)
• Customer service skills within a technical environment

What We’re Looking For

• A strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Interest in mechanical, construction, or plant equipment
• Practical, hands-on approach
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, construction, or similar environment is an advantage, but not essential

Contract Details

• Permanent, full-time position (39 hours per week)
• Monday to Friday, with participation in a Saturday roster as required
• Location: Sallynoggin Road Lower, Sallynoggin, Co. Dublin
