Role Overview: As a Driver, you will be responsible for safely driving and delivering products from our Central Warehouse to stores and to customers in a timely manner. Your role includes supporting the safe transfer of products and cages into stores.
Key Responsibilities:
- Route Driving: Drive HGV/LGVs on pre-planned routes, ensuring timely deliveries.
- Loading and Unloading: Undertake manual loading and unloading of vehicles, ensuring health and safety procedures are followed and items are properly secured.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct daily routine checks to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and report any defects immediately to the line manager.
- Compliance and Safety: Drive vehicles courteously, adhering to legislation, health and safety guidelines, and company policy. Ensure all vehicles are loaded within their weight specifications and comply with safe and legal requirements.
- Documentation: Complete tachograph, where appropriate, and other essential documents efficiently, ensuring delivery notes, drivers manifest have correct signatures as per company policy.
- Customer Relations: Build effective working relationships with customers, acting as an ambassador for the business.
- Security: Safeguard against theft of company goods or property by maintaining security consciousness at all times.
Skills and Experience Required:
Essential:
- Driving Skills: 3.5t Drivers hold a valid Class 2 licence held for at least 12 months, with no more than 3 points, and a 7.2t Drivers hold a Qualification Card (DQC) with relevant CPC training, with no more than 3 points on their licence.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Ability to conduct routine vehicle checks and perform basic maintenance.
- Loading and Unloading: Experience in manual handling and safely loading/unloading vehicles.
- Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of driving regulations, tachograph usage (as appropriate), and health and safety guidelines.
- Documentation Skills: Ability to accurately complete delivery notes and other essential documents.
- Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with store colleagues and act as a company ambassador.
- Security Awareness: Vigilance in safeguarding against theft and maintaining security consciousness.
- Positive Attitude: A positive and can-do attitude, with a willingness to support other branch staff with warehouse or other duties.
- Multi-Site/Multi-Drop Deliveries: Experience with multi-site or multi-drop deliveries.
Desirable:
- Route Planning: Ability to plan and follow efficient delivery routes.
- Problem-Solving: Skills to address delivery challenges and adapt to changing conditions.
- Communication: Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
