Category Manager
Part of Grafton Group Plc, Grafton Merchanting ROI is the market leader in the builder's merchanting industry in the Republic of Ireland. Main brands include Chadwicks, Heiton Buckley, Cork Builders Providers, Panelling Centre, Davies & Telfords.
Principle Objective
Reporting to the General Manager, the Category Manager is responsible for all of the daily functions around stock/procurement management.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Levels
- Setting the monthly budget for the group and by branch
- Ensuring the budgeted stock levels are achieved monthly
- Issue monthly sales & stock reports to the branch managers
Cycle Counting
- Draft the monthly cycle count schedule
- Ensure the schedule is completed monthly
- Ensure that every branch has a responsible staff member for cycle counts
- Carry out any training required re cycle counting
- Spot checking of cycle counts in our branches
Slow Moving / Aged Stock
- Identify slow moving stock that needs to be sold off
- Ensure the stock provision adequately covers the aged stock
- Work with the managers to sell off any damaged stock
- Communicate with suppliers on returns of slow moving stock
Margin
- Ensure adequate protection of our cost price to stop the margin being unnecessarily traded away
- New products being brought in enhance our margino Monitor FX and adjust the cost price where necessary
Reporting
- Issue monthly reports to the Operations Manager under the following headings
- Use Diver where applicable
- Aged & slow moving stock Sales of product groups Margin performance by product group
- Supplier performance New trends
Display & Marketing
- Ensure all agreed stock items are on display in our branches
- Work with the marketing department to have attractive POS available
- Where possible, pre-launch any new products to the market
- Work with marketing on completion of the new technical trade brochure
- Ensure all stock products are in our retail & trade POS
