Working with the CPI CEO and his leadership team, supported by the Group SHEQ Director, develop and deliver the safety, health and wellbeing agenda, to establish and maintain safe systems of work and a safe and healthy environment for colleagues, customers and all other visitors.

Develop and implement safety and health best practice and continuous improvement initiatives across the CPI business to deliver a pro-active safety culture designed to improve wellbeing and reduce injuries and ill health.

Engage with all colleagues across the CPI business to deliver the plan and work collaboratively with other safety teams in the Group to share best practice.

Typical Tasks & Activities

*         Develop the safety, health and wellbeing strategy across the CPI business and drive all associated action plans.

*         Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management on the implications of current & emerging legislation and best in class safety and health practices, making recommendations to flex and adapt approaches to work within the legislative requirements.

*         Coach the Board and operational managers in all aspects of safety and health leadership, including their own leadership behaviours, their ability to integrate safety and health management into daily operations, their implementation of risk assessments and safe systems of work and their management of incident reporting and investigations including completion of recommended actions.

*         Act as a role model for effective safety and health leadership, setting the standard at the top and developing an open safety and health culture throughout the business, with high levels of communication and engagement across factories and support teams.

*         Proactively assess key business safety and health risks alongside all opportunities for improving safety, health and wellbeing, monitor and review the reality of current safety and health practices and present your observations, recommendations, plans and progress reports to senior management regularly.

*         Ensure a proactive approach to managing safety and health is implemented consistently across the business.

*         Develop a comprehensive, business-integrated approach to auditing, monitoring and action planning to mitigate the impact and likelihood of safety and health risks.

*         Develop, deliver and manage a variety of safety and health performance assessments and measures, manage all business safety and health data and use this to identify trends, recommend improvements, measure progress and celebrate success.

*         Ensure routine safety and health activities, regular checks, accident/injury reporting and investigations are carried out consistently and to a high standard across the business. Ensure outcomes are documented and communicated, providing operational support and advice to all managers and colleagues.  Manage all such investigations, actions and RIDDOR reporting where necessary.

*         Identify and coordinate the creation and delivery of all safety and health training across the CPI business. Ensure all training is relevant, engaging and stretching utilising a variety of delivery media, and manage all colleague safety and health related records.

*         Create engaging, relevant and informative safety, health and wellbeing communication materials for all CPI managers and colleagues, acting as the focal point for all colleagues.

*         Prepare regular reports on compliance, initiatives, improvements and all other key safety, health and wellbeing activity to the Board.

*         Take responsibility for personal development, learning and performance levels as part of regular performance reviews with the CPI CEO. 

*         Maintain close working relationships with other Group safety and health teams to reduce the potential for conflicting safety and health messages, especially at shared business locations.

*         Support the Group SHEQ Director in the development of coordinated approaches across Group businesses and ensure these are integrated into the CPI business as appropriate.

*         Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the CPI CEO or Group SHEQ Director from time to time.

Essential Skills:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate qualification or equivalent 
  • Technical Member of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH), working towards Graduate Member status 
  • Practical and pragmatic approach to HS&E risk management 
  • Extensive knowledge of effective safety and health management with a proven record of delivering the strategy across a multi-site operation
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with experience of change management progammes 
  • Ability to work on own initiative to resolve local issues through practical solutions 
  • Committed to applying corporate and departmental standards effectively and consistently 
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload effectively, working to tight deadlines 
  • Ability to respond quickly to unplanned events and changing work priorities 
  • Competent Microsoft Excel and Word skills 
  • Full driver’s licence

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH Diploma qualification or equivalent 
  • Graduate membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Grad IOSH) 
  • Mental Health First Aider with experience and passion for developing wellbeing initiatives alongside traditional safety and health management 
  • Experience in manufacturing, building materials, construction and/or logistics industries 
  • Experience in behavioural auditing and behavioural change programmes 
  • Experience of quality management systems and processes
