Supervise the branch team, to ensure branch objectives are met and in line with branch business plan and strategy.  To oversee the yard / transport / health & safety day to day operations in the branch & be the go-to person for all branch staff in the 1st instance.

 

To ensure that we meet and exceed our customers’ expectations in terms of the efficiency of the service we provide.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Motivating and organising the team to achieve the department operational needs.

  • Providing on the job training, guidance and coaching to all members of the team.

  • Using initiative to identify and solve problems.

  • Promoting good housekeeping within the department to provide a safe professional environment.

  • Ensuring that branch assets are well maintained and protected from possible damage and theft.

  • Willing to perform any other duties as may be deemed necessary or as may be required by the company.

 

Key areas of management

 

Yard - Responsible for:

 

  • Controlling the timely return of faulty/damaged goods and ensuring up-todate accurate stock records.

  • Ensuring that customers are always served promptly and efficiently.

  • Ensuring that tally systems/paperwork and policy are always used thus actively safeguarding against theft of goods or company property by being security conscious.

  • Receive and check off deliveries to the branch, highlighting any anomalies and ensuring secure, correct, and timely storage of such deliveries in line with health and safety guidelines.

  • Ensure that the yard is always kept tidy, that stock is clearly identifiable and low stock levels highlighted to branch management where necessary.

  • Ensure that the forklift is used and maintained in an appropriate manner in line with health and safety guidelines.

  • Assist with picking and loading of company vehicles on an as and when basis.

 

Transport - Responsible for:

 

  • Day to Day management of the branch drivers

  • Completion of route/scheduling sheets

  • Tachograph analysis to ensure compliance with relevant legislation

  • Inspection/Maintenance and upkeep of vehicles to ensure they are legal and in a road worthy condition.

  • Ticket confirmation on database system (Opal)

  • Monitoring security checks of loaded company vehicles prior to exit

 

Health & Safety – Responsible for:

 

  • To provide guidance and support to the Branch Manager and colleagues within the branch team.

  • Regular branch walks to review safety processes – providing support where required and drive continuous improvements

  • To audit and report on branch health, safety, environmental and management performance and define appropriate improvement actions.

  • To investigate incidents and accidents, whilst working with branch team and others to identify causes and define appropriate actions to avoid recurrence.

  • To act and assist on specific risk management issues

  • To lead the branch Safety Committee and follow up on all issues raised.

  • Deliver ‘Toolbox Talks’ to groups of colleagues & provide training to colleagues at all levels.

Measurements of Success:

 

  • Department financial performance against budget

  • A clean and well-maintained environment that fully complies with health and safety requirements/regulations.

  • High staff retention and motivation levels.

  • Efficient and correct maintenance of all company administration systems.

  • Must be prepared to fully support the branch at the twice-yearly stock-take
